Wondering how to make a scrapbook? Pretty scrapbooks are on trend right now. They have invaded social networks, in which people show off this beautiful way of preserving their photos, thoughts and memories. If you have also been bitten by the scrapbooking bug, you are in luck. Making them is easier than it sounds. You just have to have a little patience and the right materials. Add a little inspiration and you are good to go. Scrapbooking is about letting your imagination run wild so here are some easy steps to follow.

Decide on a theme

Scrapbooking can be done for a certain special event such as your last trip to Greece, your high school journey, the months through summer camp etc. Pick out the event you will create the scrap book for and have a rough idea on what you will enter in it. You can plan a colour theme, patterns, calligraphy styles that relate to your event. For example, if you're making the book for your trip to Hawaii last summer, you can pick out tropical colours such as blue, green, red and yellow. Tropical shapes would be flowers, coconut trees, waves etc.

Gather all materials needed

As a basis, it is important that you have several basic stationery products needed for scrapbooking. A solid base notebook is a must. You can bet on any notebook or drawing pad, although we recommend that you always choose one with thick sheets that can hold everything up. You can use stationery such as scissors, glue, glitter pens, markers, coloured paper and boards, paints and also custom washi tape.

Make a general guide

Once you have a specific theme and all the materials that you want to include in your scrapbook, the next step is to start doing it. Review the photos you want to include. Decide how you want to organize them, how many you want to include on each sheet, which ones will go together etc. You can make a small general sketch of how you are going to organize everything to serve as a guide before you start anything. Order your photos on paper without gluing them on. This way, you will know what to place where, how to decorate etc.

Finishing touches

Once you have the general guide planned out, you can now get to work. Crop and prepare your photos. Remember to decorate the background and outline before you start on anything. Stick the photos accordingly. Remember to leave space to add details, phrases and other decorations. Write little notes and phrases and add finishing touches. The beauty of a scrapbook lies in the details.

The more you add special elements, the more interesting it gets. Also always add elements that are memorable. For example, if while in the water in Hawaii, a dolphin swam up to you, include a picture of a dolphin and write about your experience. You might have not been able to take your own picture with the dolphin, but this general picture will remind you of the special moment you had.
