Not all are aware what the fabric lyocell is but it’s been around since 1972. It began to be popular as a material used for bedding in the late 1990’s, although cotton is still the most preferred fabric for bed sheets. Lyocell is biodegradable; it is made out of birch, oak and eucalyptus wood pulp. It is also made out of a technique that ensures manufacturing this material does not contaminate the environment. Not only is lyocell biodegradable, there are other numerous reasons why clothes made out of lyocell is desirable.
Lyocell is hypoallergenic
People with sensitive skin knows that a hypoallergenic fabric is a life saver. Since lyocell has the ability to pull moisture away from the skin, dust mites, viruses, bacteria and other allergens that trigger allergic reactions would not be able to cling to the fabric. Allergic people who are prone to rashes would also benefit from wearing clothes made out of lyocell because they are silky and velvety.

Lyocell is wrinkle free
If you are one of those people who are not a fan of ironing their clothes, lyocell could be your next best friend since not only is it soft and velvety to feel, it is also wrinkle free. This fabric is made using nanotechnology by making the lyocell fibres lengthy which makes it soft and wrinkle resistant. Owning a lyocell dress could save you time and effort when you need to be somewhere spontaneously. You don’t need to iron it after each wash.
Lyocell is refreshing
There is a reason why lyocell is being used to make bed sheets. This is because it is super absorbent and even if you sweat through the night, you’d still wake up feeling refreshed since you were comfortable and dry the whole night. People who sweat easily would benefit a lot from wearing clothes made out of lyocell to provide the ultimate comfort. The fabric is cool and breathable and perfect for summer clothes.
Lyocell is durable
Another reason why clothes made out lyocell is desirable is because of its durability. Even if it is soft to touch and feel, there is no denying its durability. Its long lasting but a disadvantage is that it requires proper and sensitive handling. If you don’t like ironing clothes, you might have to compromise into washing the clothes by hand. Although not all clothes made out of lyocell need to be handwashed. Some could be machine washed but should be done via the gentle cycle. Lyocell is also more impervious to piling compared to cotton.

Of course, there are some drawbacks to buying clothes made out of lyocell. They could be more expensive than their counterparts. They might also shrink a little after the first wash but then after that first wash, the material would resist shrinking after. Not only would lyocell clothes require sensitive washing, they must also be air dried or line dried because drying them using a machine might spoil the fibres. Still, even with these disadvantages, the benefits still outweigh them.
